A New Earth

I’ll be honest with you, I was nervous diving into Eckhart Tolle’s book, A New Earth, for one reason and one reason only; I thought I wouldn’t be able to comprehend it.

I’ve always stayed away from his books because I’ve felt his words lived in another dimension than the one I was living.

Traveling this journey of intentional self growth and experiencing such profound internal transformation equipped me with the necessary confidence to give it a go.

Cover to cover, Eckhart Tolle reminded me that I was already on the path to an awakened life because I was holding his book in my hands. This reinforced the confidence to continue pursuing his words.

So I pressed on.

The biggest vote of confidence given to me while reading A New Earth is that many points covered throughout the book aligned beautifully with the core mission of the UYC project.

Here is the main premise.

Live life through your primary purpose

Your life has an inner purpose and an outer purpose. Inner purpose concerns Being and is primary. Outer purpose concerns Doing, and is secondary. — Eckhart Tolle

Your primary purpose is to awaken, to transform, to enlighten, to just be. It’s that simple. It’s to sift through the clutter that’s formed around you over the years and get to the center of your being.

Your outer purpose can take many different shapes and forms, and can even evolve as time passes.

We look to the Doing first

As we look to find meaning in our lives, a purpose, we often look to external things. We try to connect and identify with things to paint a better picture of who we are or what we should be doing.

It’s as if that’s part of the awakening process. We all do it.

The truth is, your primary purpose is to take care of yourself first, the internal, so you can give wholeheartedly to others.

Your secondary purpose is fueled by your primary purpose; it passes through you. The more attention and energy you give to Being, the better the Doing becomes.

In fact, this is your destiny in life; to live through your primary purpose.

Not what you do, but how you do what you do determines whether you are fulfilling your destiny. — Eckhart Tolle (tweet this)

Living first from your outer purpose

Experiencing transformation was an experience that, at times, is almost indescribable. It’s hard to muster the words to accurately portray the experience.

I was living with intense anxiety and stress. As I committed to taking care of myself first, my primary purpose, the anxiety and stress began to lift. I began to feel lighter, a sense of freedom. My peripherals to life widened.

If you were to look at my life over the past three years, and overlaid each year on top of the other, there wouldn’t be anything out of alignment.

Nothing in my external life has changed.

All of the what I was doing’s have stayed the same, even to this day. The change occurred from within. My primary purpose became front and center.

Whenever you become anxious or stressed, outer purpose has taken over and you lost sight of your inner purpose. — Eckhart Tolle (tweet this)

This is exactly where I was three years ago.

Living first from my secondary purpose. I was so focused on the what I was doing instead of the how I was doing what I was doing.

I ventured out on this journey of intentional self growth not knowing what the outcome was going to be, or what it even should be. I just knew I had to take care of myself first, before my health deteriorated; that’s the path I was headed on.

You can’t seek transformation, it seeks you

Growth, awakening, transformation; they aren’t things you seek to achieve. It’s not a destination in which you set out to grab. Instead, it’s a process in which you commit your energy to.

Your primary purpose exerts itself into everything you do and into everyone you meet.

When you live through your primary purpose, when you are simply Being, you’ll begin to notice that everything around you changes, without it physically changing.

The people can be the same, the environments in which you work and play can be the same, the only thing that changes is the experiences with those things.

However, there are instances where a change in people and scenery is essential to being awakened or transformed, but it’s not required.

As you commit to your primary purpose, or traveling a journey of intentional self growth, transformation isn’t something you seek. Instead, transformation seeks you.

Trust the process and commit to your primary purpose of Being.
